Description
This photograph was taken of a roseate spoonbill as it was wading in the swamp of Ten Thousand Islands National Park in the everglades just east of Marco Island. The roseate spoonbills occasionally make themselves available for photographs in this park as they wade for food in the shallow water (during dry season). This particular spoonbill was alone and was grooming itself after flying into the park. It would stretch its wings once in a while to air them out. It is most colorful and dramatic while doing this wing stretching exercise. I was lucky enough to catch this action from the birdwatch tower in the park. Right after taking this photo, the bird flew off and never was seen again. You have to be lucky to take photos like this.
